Mom,What if I drown?

Son, 4, asked mum 'what if I drown?' on way to swimming lesson before pool death

A heartbroken mum claims her scared four-year-old son asked "what if I drown?" on the way to his second ever swimming lesson, only for his awful premonition to come true. Dori Scott enrolled four-year-old Israel 'Izzy' Scott in a beginner's swim class in June this year after the tot showed a love of water on a family holiday.

The 35-year-old claims she picked an instructor after she advertised on Facebook claiming to have decades of experience.

When mum-of-three Dori turned up on the first day she claims she was told to leave Izzy and wait in the car, presuming it was to avoid distractions.

But on the second day as she sat in her car outside waiting for her son, she claims a tearful woman knocked on her window.

As Dori burst into the pool area, she claims little Izzy lay unconscious as an onlooker performed CPR.

It has not been established what had happened to him or how he came into trouble in the water.

The little boy was then rushed to hospital in Burke County, Georgia, before being transferred to Children's Hospital of Georgia, in Augusta, where he died in the early hours of June 15, 2022.

Now Dori is campaigning for new laws that dictate an adult-to-child ratio at swim lessons in her state - while urging parents to never leave their children alone at the baths, even with instructors.

Dori, from Augusta, in Georgia, US, said: "It was a mother's worst nightmare. It's unbelievable and shocking.

"We had just been on a vacation and that's when I scheduled his swim lessons.

"I was telling him 'you're going to be swimming' and he was so excited because he always wanted to swim. He always knew the danger of water but he loved it so much.

"[Before the second class] when I was getting him dressed, he said 'why am I putting that on?' I told him he had a swim lesson and he said 'I don't wanna go' but was in a happy mood.

"He asked 'but what if I drown' and I said 'you're not going to drown, silly' and he laughed it off."

Dori claims she left Izzy with the instructor before going to sit in her car and wait for the class to finish.

Dori said: "It happened on day two. I signed my son up for a week of swim lessons.

"[The instructor] told me the parents weren't allowed to stay because I guess the kids didn't act right [with parents there].

"I waited in my car and got a knock on my window [from a parent] saying 'come get your baby'.

"It wasn't time - they still had about six minutes left. I looked at her again and saw tears in her eyes.

"That's when I started screaming because I figured something was wrong.

"My whole life changed in a matter of moments."

Panicked Dori rushed in through the gate to find her unconscious son lay by the poolside receiving CPR and foaming at the mouth.

Dori said: "I cried and screamed all the way up there and when I got there, my son was on the side of the pool while they were administering CPR. He was unresponsive.

"I could tell by looking at him that he had been under the water for some time because he was foaming at the mouth and had no heartbeat.

"I asked the swimming instructor what happened and all she could tell me was she didn't know. She said 'I don't know. I told the kids to get out of the pool. I don't know'.

"I stood at the pool screaming 'let me hold my baby'. They wouldn't let me hold him of course because they were doing CPR and chest compressions.

"I have so many unanswered questions."

Little Izzy was then rushed to Burke Medical Center nearby before being driven to the Children's Hospital of Georgia, where medics got a heartbeat.

But after a CT scan, it was established Izzy was already brain dead and he sadly passed away soon after.

Dori said: "We were able to go back and see him when they were doing all these tests on him.

"They finally got a heartbeat but once they did a CT scan he was already brain dead. He'd been under [the water] too long.

"He passed in the early hours of June 15, 2022. I never received an apology."

DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE

Father allegedly beats his 2-month-old son with hanger in Imo for disturbing his sleep, breaks the baby's arm leading to amputation

The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State chapter have called on the Imo State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute one Mr Confidence Amatobi, for allegedly assaulting his 2-month-old baby, Miracle.

Mr Amatobi was said to have assaulted little Miracle with a plastic hanger and broke the baby's arm for disturbing his sleep.

The incident led to the amputation of the fractured arm at the Pediatrics ward of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Owerri.

NAWOJ, NHRC and the aggrieved mother of baby Miracle, made the call for justice in Owerri the Imo State Capital.

Imo State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr Dorothy Nnaji who spoke to newsmen after visiting the amputated boy at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri, confirmed that the injury inflicted by the 31-year-old father, a native of Amurie in Isu LGA of the state, led to the amputation of the little boy’s right hand.

Mrs Nnaji who frowned at the dastardly cruel act of Mr Amatobi expressed shock that a father could assault his innocent child simply because he was crying and disturbing his sleep.

She disclosed that Mr Amatobi was reported to have repeatedly hit the baby with a plastic hanger to stop him from crying until the right hand broke.

"The perpetrator, Mr. Confidence Amatobi, who hails from Amurie in Isu L.G.A  used a plastic hanger on the baby, simply because he was crying that the 20-year-old mother left to ease herself. He used wood and elastic bands to tie the baby's hand when he saw that hand was broken and swollen," Mrs Nnaji said.

"He locked the mother and baby to prevent  her from talking to neighbours or seeking help. He also took her phone from her. After two days she found her way out and sought help from her neighbours.  The guy  was arrested by a vigilante but he escaped.  By the time help came, the baby's hand was already decayed. The only option was to cut off baby Miracle's right hand from shoulder,"

Atiku's picture is not on the posters - Nyesom Wike

Why Atiku Is Not On Rivers Campaign Poster - Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has revealed why he removed the picture of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Atiku, from the Rivers State campaign poster.

Wike revealed this while speaking at the inauguration of Rivers State PDP campaign council on Monday.

He claimed that Atiku picked those that he wanted to work with in Rivers State without his contribution.

Wike went on to say that he will only campaign for people who have asked him to do so and that Atiku has not asked him to campaign for him.

He said. “The presidential candidate entered my state and picked members of the presidential council without the contribution of the(sic) whole governor. They said they don't need me to campaign for them.

“I have never seen how people would disrespect a state like Rivers State and go and choose enemies of the state without the contribution of the governor.

“The senatorial and governorship candidate told us to campaign for them and that is why we are here to campaign for them.” - TVC

I killed him all by myself

I kiIIed Usifo Ataga all by myself, without help - Chidinma Ojukwu

A video of Chidinma Ojukwu confessing to killing the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Michael Ataga, all by herself, was played in a Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Tuesday October 11.

Miss Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), is the prime suspect in Ataga’s murder.

In the video, Ataga was seen lying on the floor facing up with his hands spread open wearing a white singlet and boxers stained with blood. His head was close to the wall and there was blood on the floor on his right-hand side.

There were also large blood stains on the floor and the pillow and duvet cover.

Narrating how she killed Ataga during interrogation by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olusegun Bamidele from the Intelligence and Tactical Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Yaba, Chidinma Ojukwu said she met Ataga through a friend and they started speaking to each other.

On June 13, 2021, he asked her to look for a place for them to stay, so she got the short-let apartment where they ate, drank, took drugs and where he was killed.

She said;

“After I got the place on Sunday, we were smoking loud, drinking, watching movies and then I went to get food. The drug we were taking got finished and I ordered another one and went downstairs to get it from the delivery guy in the morning; that was on June 14, 2021.

“Then on Tuesday, we drank and smoked loud. I added Rophynol to his drink and we had sex. I was on the bed and he was on the chair. Then later he started disturbing me for more sex. I was tired and after struggling with him, he had his way and still wanted more.

“He wanted it, he was no longer himself and I thought he was no more interested in sex, only for him to return to the bed to ask for more sex.I pushed him away, which resulted in him hitting his head against a stool that had a glass. He had a cut on his leg and he became weak.

“I got a knife and stabbed him in the neck, ribs and stomach so that he would not be able to harm me. I tied his hands with handkerchief.

“His blood was out and I was scared.

Woman kills her maid and dumps the body in the bush

Lady arrested for beating her maid to death and dumping her body inside a bush in Anambra

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Anambra State Command, has arrested a woman over the brutal murder of her maid.

It was gathered that the suspect was nabbed this week after she beat her maid to death then dumped the body in a nearby bush.

Details of the incident are still sketchy, but a video shared online shows the moment the suspect took NAPTIP officials to the bush where the already decomposing corpse was recovered.

“I beat her and she started convulsing so I took her to Kings (hospital). Getting there, she died, so I threw her body here,” she said in the video.
